The annual COEH-CE Summer Institute will take place July 25-29 at the Elihu Harris State Office Building in downtown Oakland. Along with some old standards like Fundamentals of Industrial Hygiene, Fundamentals of Workplace Safety, and Fundamentals of Worker' Comp, there will be some exciting new classes:
~This year's Ergonomics class, "The Science of Sitting," features speakers addressing the latest findings in the sit/stand controversy. COEH's Carisa Harris-Adamson, crowd favorite Ira Janowitz and Cross-Fit co-founder Dr. Kelly Starrett are among the presenters.
~"The Experienced Worker: Aging and Workplace Challenges", is a 2 day class featuring the unique challenges inherent in an aging workforce, including physiological, psychosocial, vision, and ergonomic changes and needs, policies and practices in WC that affect older workers, and how make a workplace that welcomes all.
~"Climate Change and Worker Health" explores the many ways in which a changing physical environment affects various employees, including heat itself, disease, water and air issues, allergies, and other areas, and how to address movement toward correction.
~"Workers' Comp: Emerging Issues" will be looking at case management models, stress, Employee Law vs. Workers' Comp Law, and other important current topics. and we have a new group doing the Fundamentals of Workers' Comp course this year, bringing some new ideas.
