“The Importance of Sleep for Workplace Health and Safety”
Registration details will be shared in the coming weeks!
Sleep is so natural, it tends to be taken for granted. But busy lives and other issues can decrease sleep duration and quality, with negative health and occupational impacts. This presentation will elucidate some of these impacts, unravel various causes, and present some solutions we may want to begin to consider, for our patients and ourselves.
Bio: Joseph Toscano, MD, earned his medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine in 1989 and completed his training in internal medicine at the Naval Hospital in San Diego. Following his service in the U.S. Navy, where he specialized in submarine and diving medicine as well as radiation health, Dr. Toscano transitioned to a distinguished career spanning over three decades in emergency medicine, urgent care, and occupational medicine.
Since 1999, Dr. Toscano has served as an attending emergency physician at San Ramon Regional Medical Center in San Ramon, California, where he also led the Occupational Medicine program until the clinic's closure in 2021 due to the pandemic. In March 2023, he joined the Health Services team at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, and in 2024, he was appointed as the Site Occupational Medical Director.
Beyond his occupational health responsibilities, Dr. Toscano is a senior research editor for Emergency Medicine Practice, a monthly, evidence-based publication for continuing medical education (CME) in emergency medicine. He is also a key contributor to the development of their new publication, Evidence-based Urgent Care. In addition, he serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Urgent Care Medicine and actively develops and reviews CME materials for various professional organizations and publications in the fields of urgent care and emergency medicine.
