Position Summary:

The Employee Health Nurse Practitioner (NP) implements the planning, organizing, evaluating, communicating, consulting and teaching required in the provision of employee health care services to affiliate employees, physicians, allied health professionals, volunteers and contract clients primarily in the Bay Area. Employee Health medical services are provided by the NP following established protocols and standards within the NP Scope of Practice. This is specifically accomplished by performing pre-placement physical assessments and medical surveillance examinations that are job specific, triaging and treating work-related injuries/illnesses and performing preventative health measures. The NP orders, interprets and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess the patient’s clinical problems and health care needs. The NP documents findings, formulates plans and prognosis based on patient condition. This position also prescribes or recommends and administers drugs and vaccinations. The NP may refer patients to a physician for consultation or to specialized health resources for evaluation and/or treatment. This position also provides health education, drafts/revises policy and procedures and provides policy interpretation relative to Employee Health Services. The NP promotes optimum health and safety in the work place and collaborates with other health care professionals in assessing and managing health care problems, maintaining continuity of care. The NP/ reports to the Manager of Employee Health Services for administrative direction, policy recommendations, presentations, staffing questions, department procedures and performs these duties in a self-directed manner with minimal supervision-direction. In the areas of medical management/treatment, this position reports to the Medical Director of Employee Health Services.

Principal Accountabilities

• Obtains problem oriented to patient’s history and documents findings in the patient medical record and in an accurate and timely manner.
• Performs physical and psychosocial assessments and documents findings in the patient medical record.
• Diagnoses and treats medical problems including patient education, counseling, medication advice and follow-up instructions with referral when necessary to supervising physician and specialist.

Position Requirements:

Education:

Master’s degree in Nursing.

Experience:

Current California RN license

Current California Nurse Practitioner license

ACLS and BLS current

2 years recent experience as a Nurse Practitioner in an Employee/Occupational Health setting preferable
