If you missed the September issue of AAOHN's Newsletter, please see the attached. AAOHN congratulates Dr. Barbara Burgel on her recent appointment to the California Department of Industrial Relations, Occupational Safety & Health Standards Board

CECRAOHN's Board writes....

We are very proud of Dr. Barbara Burgel’s appointment to the Cal/OSHA Standards Board. Dr. Burgel has been an exemplary leader in the occupational health nursing community and served the CECRAOHN with many significant roles including the President of CECRAOHN in 2014-2015. Dr. Burgel provided phenomenal leadership to enhance and expand the roles and professional activities of the occupational health nursing community, including CECRAOHN. We send our highest congratulation to Dr. Burgel and look forward to her continuing contribution to the protection and promotion of worker safety and health.

Barbara J. Burgel has been an independent occupational health consultant since 2017. She is a professor emeritus at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) where she was a professor from 1981 to 2017, teaching and conducting research in a graduate occupational health nursing program. Her program of research focuses on psychosocial work factors and other health and safety issues in hotel room cleaners, day laborers, and taxi drivers. Burgel has been an external auditor for occupational health at ERM CVS since 2010. She has practiced as a nurse practitioner throughout her career, including the UCSF Occupational Medicine Clinic, the UCSF Community Occupational Health Project, the UCSF Faculty Practice at Progress Foundation, the University of California Berkeley Student Health Center, and the City College of San Francisco Student Health Center. She is a member of the American Academy of Nursing, American Association of Occupational Health Nursing, and the American Nurses Association. Burgel earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree in nursing and a Master of Science degree in nursing from the University of California, San Francisco School of Nursing. She is nationally certified as an Occupational Health Nurse Specialist by the American Board for Occupational Health Nurses and as an Adult Nurse Practitioner through the American Nurses Credentialing Center. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and the American Association of Occupational Health Nursing.
