Position Description

About this Role:

  • Regional responsibilities (6 sites within Bay Area, 1 in Valencia, 1 in Vancouver)
  • Wide variety of occ health nurse responsibilities (case management, recordkeeping, BBP)
  • Medical advisement only; no on-site clinic treatment

Reporting to the Regional EH&S Manager, the primary responsibilities of this position is to oversee case management and conduct medical assessments of work-related injuries and illnesses for multiple Western Region Boston Scientific locations. This role functions as a clinical case manager and coordinates an individual client's health care services across multiple systems from the onset of injury or illness to a safe return to work or an optimal alternative. Care is coordinated with a focus on achieving quality care delivered in a cost-effective manner. Using a unique knowledge of employees, their social or family system, and the work environment, the occupational health nurse assesses, plans, implements, coordinates, monitors, and evaluates the care for clients. Practices within the parameters of professional licensure to ensure consistency with legal, labor, regulatory and corporate requirements.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Administer all aspect of Workers’ Compensation program.
  • Maintain OSHA logs/recordkeeping requirements in accordance to applicable regulations.
  • Coordinates all aspects of the Bloodborne Pathogens Program, including vaccinations and medical records
  • Direct involvement in coordinating and facilitating work-related lost and restricted time care, coordination and management, and facilitates injured employee return-to-work. 
  • Provides initial assessment of occupational injuries, illnesses and exposures and may treat or refer for further evaluation as necessary in accordance with clinical guidelines and protocols.
  • Assists with incident investigations and corrective action plans to ensure root causes are identified and addressed 
  • Acts as a professional health resource for the organization's management in planning and maintaining initiatives and programs that meet defined goals and objectives.
  • Assesses the broad spectrum of client needs, including physical and psychosocial factors, using data from various sources including, but not limited to aggregate case/claims experience, employer representatives, other health care providers, health records, and third party representatives.
  • Develops processes for identifying situations that require early intervention to maximize desired outcomes.
  • Identifies qualifications and expectations for, and monitors and evaluates outcomes and quality of services delivered by health care providers and vendors in the treatment and rehabilitation network.
  • Collaborates with treatment, rehabilitation providers, third party representatives to coordinate/provide for the appropriate care, treatment and follow-up of work related health events based on knowledge of the specific work environment for optimal outcomes.
  • Communicates and coordinates return to work issues including work restrictions, modified scheduling and job accommodations with appropriate parties.
  • Provides health-related counseling for supervisors and employees within the scope of nursing knowledge and practice.
  • Conducts workplace walkthroughs/assessments and exposure follow-up.
  • Maintains and reports site EH&S metrics, statistics and records related to TRIR/LWR
  • Maintains and safeguards privacy and confidentiality of business and protected health information.
  • Participates in the development, maintenance and deployment of related policies, procedures and training
  • Assumes responsibility for professional development and continuing education to ensure competency and performance consistent with professional Occupational Health Nursing standards.
  • Weekly travel within the Bay Area and occassional travel to Southern California and Vancouver to support Western Region sites

Quality System Requirements
In all actions, demonstrates a primary commitment to patient safety and product quality by maintaining compliance to the Quality Policy and all other documented quality processes and procedures.
For those individuals that supervise others, the following statements are applicable:

  • Assures that appropriate resources (personnel, tools, etc.) are maintained in order to assure Quality System compliance and adherence to the BSC Quality Policy.
  • Establishes and promotes a work environment that supports the Quality Policy and Quality System.

What we are looking for:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Registered General Nurse (current certification) with 7+ years’ experience
  • Strong case management, recordkeeping and BBP experience in a manufacturing environment ideal 
  • Excellent communication skills, oral and written 
  • Ability to travel approx 33% to all sites periodically to support site health and worker’s compensation related activities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge in other EHS programs (respiratory protection, radiation, ergonomics)
  • Certified case manager
  • Certified occupational health nurse
  • Strong computer skills (excel)
  • Experience working as an Occupational Health Nurse
